I wanted my students to see and experience, mathematically

What 8th grader thinks and experiences mathematics beyond a classroom? I surely didn't. One of my personal goals for my algebra students was for them to talk, laugh, and scream about the nature of precision, the nature of logic.

I'd draw my creative students (mostly percussionists) into the world of mathematics by discussing the absolute nature of patterns.

My favorite activity involved reading passages from, "Flatland", and to have them photograph 1, 2, 3, or a combination of these dimensions. I had 4 film cameras, 2 of which were donated by parents. I would develop the film. They would then choose the frame they wanted me to print. Their work was displayed (8"x10" photographs) in a coffee shop in Burlington, NC.
